This is another wonderful app I was able to find which helps a lot and saves a lot of time in the day to day life. If you are a person who uses CDs, network drives, RAM disks and USB thumb drives, this app can make your life so easy. This app creates desktop shortcuts whenever you insert a CD or USB thumb drive or whenever a network drive/RAMDisk drive becomes available giving you easy access to any of the removable drives which you might want to use on a daily basis. All these are fully customizable in the simple and easy options interface (see screenshot below)

Intel has unveiled details of the chip that will spearhead its move into computer graphics. It has revealed blueprints for the Larrabee chip that is scheduled to first appear in finished products in late 2009 or early 2010. Larrabee will be a stand-alone graphics processor unlike the onboard chips it produces for many PC makers. The move will bring Intel into direct competition with graphics specialists Nvidia and the ATI division of AMD. Intel is aiming to put Larrabee into graphics cards for PCs that help show games and video in very high detail. Like existing graphics chips from Nvidia and ATI, Larrabee is expected to have many separate processing cores onboard.

cuil

Cuil, a new search engine, opened for business on Monday, boasting an index of 120 billion Web pages, “three times more than any other search engine.”

Google, as if pre-briefed on today’s announcement, on Friday said that its index had reached 1 trillion URLs, though not all of them lead to unique Web pages.

Founded by husband-and-wife team Tom Costello and Anna Patterson, a search-engine researcher from Stanford University and a Google technical lead, respectively, Cuil aims to rank the relevance of search results by content a nalysis rather than by popularity. It’s an obvious swipe at Google, which treats Web links as popular votes in weighing Web page relevance for a given query.

“Our team approaches search differently,” said Patterson, president and COO of Cuil, in a statement. “By leveraging our expertise in search architecture and relevance methods, we’ve built a more efficient yet richer search engine from the ground up. The Internet has grown and we think it’s time search did, too.”

Some time ago I ran into a huge problem in Firefox 3. whenever I downloaded a file which was not supporting download acceleration and which was downloaded by Firefox is not being saved. I disappears forever after the download completion notification appears. Only a Firefox .part file remains. It also vanishes after you refresh the folder.

this was a huge problem and was getting on my nerves because I depend on Firefox for my daily activities. I even thought to switch to opera, but immediately understood that was even more problematic.

Finally I found a solution and posted on how to fix the issue, by using a plug-in. Thank you for all the users who reported on how successful this method worked.

I have found a better method, a method not involving a plug-in but adding a line to the Firefox configuration file which is much more efficient and easy.

Better Method (Here are the steps)

Yahoo have announced that it is closing  down its Music service “Yahoo Music” from September 30th this year.

Yahoo uses Digital Rights Management (DRM) to protect songs which requires song license to play it on any specific device. After Sep 30th, when Yahoo Music will not be available, users having music purchased from Yahoo will continue to play music on the devices they already have but they won’t be able to play their music on any other music player.

Yahoo is actually recommending its customers burn DRM-protected tracks to CD, then re-import them into their computers in an unprotected, DRM-free format. “For any user who purchased tracks through Yahoo Music Unlimited, we highly recommend that you back up the purchased tracks to an audio CD before the closing of the Store on September 30, 2008,” the company wrote in an email message to customers. “Backing up your music to an audio CD will allow you to copy the music back to your computer again if the license keys for your original music files cannot be retrieved.” The shutdown serves as another example of how digital rights management technology often interferes with customers’ ability to use media they legitimately purchased.
